(="human nation" - What we call "Greenland")
-Is one of the two places on this planet I always wanted to see!
(The other place is New Zeeland)

Some basic fact about the island:

Greenland is pretty big!
It's not so many people living there
There are 277 times more seal's there than people
The "where you can live" part of Greenland is as big as Norway!
Greenland "is own" by Denmark!
Greenland have one international airport (it's on the long flat space they did find..)

My trip to Greenland started a Monday morning at 4 AM when i did wake up (midnight local time on Greenland) The first airplane that took me to Copenhagen did leave Arlanda at 7.10AM.
The first time I did se Greenland from only "some" 3000-feet (previous it has always been at 33000 feet) the I did take these pictures: (all pictures gets bigger when you hit them "hard")
011.jpg009.jpg008.jpg007.jpg
After a successful landing in Kangerlussuag ( now I did remove some translation about how the name of the place sound in Swedish :o) The place is called Söndre Stromfjord in Danish!
This is the big international airport..... The village is not as big! I went out on the main street and took a picture i both directions, so the "public" could get a view about how BIG the village was!
West... 006.jpg,east to where the BIG ice is (only 20 km away)005.jpg
And a view to the south where the air field is.004.jpgRight to the left of this view is the terminal building, where you can go inside to get out on the run way, but if you walk right though this "picture" then you will end up on the same "run way" without passing any fences..
003.jpgThis next picture is a view over the east part of the air field, and the signs tells us how far off we really are :o)

It was a pretty long wait for me at the BIG air port before I could go to the capitol Nuuk (Gothåb). The trip to that place was in a smaller air plane (a Dash 7), the do have 50 seats but to day it was only 16 left, rest of the space in the air plane was full with ("green things"= Grönsaker) ( I don't know how to spell "växtebles" (tomatos, sallad, and more)) I landed there at 6.30PM (this was 10.30PM at home). At the airport I did meet one of the participants of the course and THE BOSS. (boss of "Hjemmestyret", (local government)). And they took me to the big hotel in the village..031.jpg(Hotel Hans Egede, Nuuk Greenland

When I was luckily checked in to the hotel I did speak to my girlfriend at home (Marie), and I did tell here about my day. And she did ask me how the village did look like though the window, but it was dark so I could only se some houses behind the hotel so I told here "that’s it" (the next day I did change my "view" of this view :o)

The next morning I was picked up at the hotel by the other of the participants, we went to the office to get some stuff we did need to arrange the course in an other place. When we did drive from the office to the class room, I could se a BIG mountain though the window in the car, I did realize that "those BIG mountains must some ware around" and in the next second we did pass the hotel...... so in daylight I did have those mountains outside my window.... :o)

This is the view from the window in the class room

Time to eat, we went to the finest restaurant in the "the city" and this is a picture of my official participants at the courses (the customer is BTW ATTAT which is SKOLEKOM in Greenland)
032.jpgJens Egede Bjarnholt and Roi Eliasen. And the unofficial..20020130_103518_0.png Henrik Jacobsen from the faroe islands.
After lunch, which was a plate whit mostly meat Reindeer, Lamb, "Musk ox" and some regular meat. We did go back to the class room again.

029.jpgView on the way back (and there are lots of colorful houses on this island)
Some facts about the capitol Nuuk:
15.000 of Greenlands 55.000 people live here. And in this building does 10% of the countries population live

023.jpg
There are about 1.500 cars in Nuuk. And in one end of the "Way net" is the air port 8 K. from the center of the "city", and the you can drive 5 Km more out to the other end..... This say that the can at most drive 13 Km, without taking a lot of turns... A lot of these cars are 4WD Toyotas, but they can't drive beside the roads (to sharp stones on the ground)

In the evening the first day was me and Henrik Jacobsen invited the BIG BOSS and his wife for dinner. She was minister of culture and sports in Greenland so we got lots of information about the upcoming Artic Winter Games. Arctic Winter Games 2002  This couple did earlier have a big Greenland dog, but now they did only have the fur on the wall (I did like that :o)

The next night it was time for the official dinner in the fancy restaurant, but before that i did exercise my camera some.
In the lobby of the hotel

025.jpg
In a near bye store did they sell "stuff" made of seal skin from Great Greenland20020130_110830_1.png

022.jpg
And in the middle between a restaurant and some condos, it was a "bärealground" (now i did not know how to spell again)
027.jpg028.jpg
The last night, Me and Hendrik went home to visit one of the students and his wife.

021.jpg

So now it was time to go back to Sweden again....
The trip started in one of the 70 Taxi's that they have in the village.

Roi (one of the students) did comment the air port in Nuuk, and hi did say: It doesn’t have many similarities with Arlanda (Stockholm) or the big air port in Copenhagen... And I guess that I have to "sign on that" Because I have never seen a waiting room in a airport were the have seal skin on the seats
019.jpg
And now some flying pictures...
017.jpg014.jpg013.jpg010.jpg0081.jpg0061.jpg0051.jpg

Down in Kangerlussuaq again.

0041.jpg0031.jpg0021.jpg
The route Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen have traffic from two different flying companies (SAS & Greenland Air) and both of them fly the same days.... Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday and only 1,5 hours apart, and the planes have plenty on room left....
0011.jpg018.jpg

And the rest of the pictures....
